An open letter to friends, family, and professionals in the field of speech-language pathology:
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—I’m going to Belize! This has been a dream of mine throughout my entire academic career, and finally, the perfect opportunity has presented itself through Baylor University.
In April 2024, I’ll be embarking on a two-week adventure with my professors and fellow cohort members, exploring the beautiful landscapes and rich culture of Belize. What makes this trip even more special is the chance to participate in a study abroad program that focuses on speech-language disorders, a field close to my heart.
During our time in Belize, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to learn from faculty, engage in a forum on speech-language disorders alongside students and faculty from the University of Belize, and collaborate with local teachers, parents, and children from various communities.
This experience is more than just an academic journey—it’s a chance to gain insights into the cultural and linguistic variables that impact speech-language services. I’m eager to apply this knowledge to enhance my own clinical practice in the future.
Now, I’m reaching out to invite you to be a part of this incredible journey with me. Each student on our team is working to raise $2,952 to cover team expenses, and we’re utilizing both individual and team fundraising efforts. If you’re able to support this adventure, consider making a tax-deductible donation through our Baylor ScaleFunder here: Baylor ScaleFunder.
For those who prefer contributing tangible gifts, I’ve also created an Amazon List with items that will be provided to local elementary schools in Belize to support teachers, parents, and students in the classroom, particularly in speech and language development: Amazon Wishlist.
If you’d rather make a direct donation, I’m happy to accept Venmo, Paypal, and Cash App payments. Just send me a message, and I’ll provide you with the necessary information.
I’m committed to documenting every moment of this trip, and I invite you to follow along on my adventures through my Facebook page TeachMeSandy and Instagram @teachmesandy.
Thank you all for your time and consideration. Your support means the world to me, and I wouldn’t be on this journey without each and every one of you. Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a fantastic New Year!
With gratitude, Sandy
